Common Surety Bonds:
Other Options for You:
This is written about changes made to the Georgia used motor vehicle dealer licensing as of June 29th, 2026.
Georgia Senate Bill 293 will take effect on July 1st, 2026.
The primary changes Georgia used vehicle dealers need to know about include:
The $35,000 surety bond for used dealers is being increased to $50,000. Expiration dates remain the same.
These increases in bond amounts typically occur in response to complaints from the public. The amount of fraudulent damages the public has been reporting has increased enough over the $35,000 limits, the state warranted a bond increase.
As far as we can tell so far you will not have to amend your current bond until your renewal date.
It use to be a misdemeanor for any person or business to issue a license plate or revalidation decal.
Illegal plate manufacturing is a felony charge.
Any person or business who tampers with or adjusts an odometer to reflect a lower milage will now face felony charges. This used to be a misdemeanor as well.
The civil penalty charge increased from $1,500 to 3x the amount of actual damages suffered or $10,000 whichever is the greater amount.
This new felony charge also applies to falsifying odometer reading on a certificate of title.
Make sure you inspect the new laws so you stay in the know.
