Software Quality Assurance & Project Manager

Overview for Software Quality Assurance & Project Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking a Software Quality Assurance & Project Manager (SQA/PM) who thrives in a hands-on, detail-oriented environment and enjoys shepherding software features from concept through release.

This role blends functional software testing, project management/delivery coordination, and lightweight product management. You will be a critical connective layer between product, engineering, and operations - ensuring work is well-tested, clearly documented, and shipped in thoughtful, cohesive releases.

This is not a pure automation role and not a traditional waterfall PM role. It is ideal for someone who understands modern software workflows, has strong testing instincts, and enjoys organizing people, timelines, and details.

This is a mid-level role but will consider candidates that can transfer applicable skills and experience to the role, but experience with software development in some professional capacity is required.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Quality Assurance

  • Perform browser-based functional testing on all staged developer work prior to release

  • Validate business impact, usability, and visual correctness (UI/UX, flow, clarity)

  • Conduct regression testing on approved changes

  • Review and verify completed fixes

  • Identify edge cases, failure modes, and “what could go wrong” scenarios

  • Clearly document findings using screenshots, screen recordings, and written notes

You do not need to write automated tests — but you must understand what unit tests are and how they fit into a modern development lifecycle.

Project & Release Management

  • Create and manage work items in a Kanban-based environment and related work in Asana

  • Maintain clean, accurate project boards:

    • Backlog grooming

    • Deduplication

    • Scope updates

    • Status tracking

  • Group related fixes and enhancements into cohesive release bundles

  • Prepare and distribute release notes (internal and/or customer-facing)

  • Track time-based commitments and follow up on deliverables

Team Coordination

  • Participate in daily standups

  • Capture and document standup notes directly in Asana

  • Tag owners and stakeholders appropriately

  • Prepare end-of-day summaries outlining commitments and expectations for the next standup

  • Serve as a reliable source of truth for delivery status

Planning & Documentation

  • Partner with the Product Manager to:

    • Document feature requirements

    • Define acceptance criteria

    • Create QA test plans during feature planning (not after)

  • Develop clear “how to test” plans that:

    • Improve developer testing baselines

    • Surface ambiguities early

    • Identify areas needing automated tests

    • Flag scenarios requiring developer or PM-led testing

  • Document existing and new product features for internal reference

  • Identify training needs and assist with enablement materials

What We’re Looking For

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in software quality assurance or functional testing

  • Familiarity with modern software development workflows (Agile, iterative delivery, staging environments)

  • Strong browser-based testing experience across multiple browsers and environments

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • High attention to detail with the ability to spot inconsistencies quickly

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Advanced comfort with:

    • Mac and Windows

    • Browser dev tools and settings

    • Spreadsheet-heavy workflows

    • Switching environments and configurations to test scenarios

Nice-to-Have (But Not Required)

  • Experience with:

    • Asana or similar project management tools

    • Writing test cases or QA plans

    • Light SQL, API testing, or analytics review

    • Understanding (not writing) automated test frameworks

    • Prior experience in a small or mid-sized software team

Who Thrives in This Role

  • You enjoy structure without bureaucracy

  • You notice what others miss

  • You think in terms of user impact, not just pass/fail

  • You are comfortable being the person who asks: “What happens if…?”

  • You like being close to the work and influencing outcomes directly
