A surety bond in the penal sum of $5,000 is required for those licensed in Massachusetts by the Colonel of the Department of State Police to lawfully conduct business operations as a private detective or watch, guard or patrol agency. The surety bond obligates the principal, its agents, operatives and assistants to ethical business conduct and proper discharge of all the services performed under the licensing authority. Anyone damaged as a result of willful, malicious or wrongful acts of the bonded licensee, its agents, operatives or assistants may take action against the surety bond.
