Delaware Contractor License Bonds

What is a Delaware Contractor License Bond?

Contractors working in the state of Delaware may be subject to various surety bonding requirements in order to be properly authorized or licensed in the state. Non-resident contractors may need to furnish a bond in an amount of six percent (6%) of the contract. The purpose of this bond is to guarantee faithful reporting and payment of all State of Delaware liabilities together with any penalties and interest along with honest accounting for all money withheld as trustee for the State of Delaware. Certain cities and counties throughout the state of Delaware including Wilmington, Newark, and New Castle also have specific surety bond requirements to authorize work in the jurisdictions.

See our Spotlight article for more on Contractor License Bonds. If this bond is for a job that you are bidding or a contract that has been awarded to you, the surety bond you need is a Contract/Construction Bond rather than a Contractor License Bond.
