District of Columbia Contractor License Bonds

What is a District of Columbia Contractor License Bond?

The District of Columbia requires that certain contractors furnish surety bonds to ensure compliance with laws and regulations in force in the District of Columbia. Contractors who offer Plumbing, Refrigeration, Gas Fitting and HVAC services are subject to the bond requirements.

Home Improvement Contractors in the District of Columbia are also required to furnish surety bonds to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. All applicants for a Basic Business License for the Home Improvement Contractor category must furnish a surety bond in the amount of twenty five thousand ($25,000). The bond term is for the duration of the two-year license period. Surety Bonds Direct is fully authorized and licensed to provide surety bonds in the District of Columbia.

See our Spotlight article for more on Contractor License Bonds. If this bond is for a job that you are bidding or a contract that has been awarded to you, the surety bond you need is a Contract/Construction Bond rather than a Contractor License Bond.
